Food Security Outreach – St. James
Every other week participants cook together, both for their own household, and to provide some extra portions to keep in the church freezer for anyone in need of a lovingly prepared meal.
We generally cook a hearty soup and a casserole, and also enjoy lunch together.
St. James Good Food Box Program
This program offers “boxes” of food for a very reasonable price and has been running since June 2012. Although it has always been called a “box” the contents are now being supplied in clear plastic bags, which serve well as kitchen garbage bags in Kawartha Lakes’ new “clear bag” waste collection regime!
It piggy-backs on the Kawartha-wide program administered by Community Care that provides a generous supply of fresh vegetables and fruits, once a month.
Vacation Bible Camp
Every summer, children between the ages of 5 and 12 gather for a week-long day program of bible stories, games, songs and learning activities. Our curriculum is contextual as we learn to love and care for the place where we live. All are welcome. Registration begins in the late winter. Stay tuned!
Cooking Classes and Soup Lunches
These community programs for youth and seniors are advertised in the community and are aimed at creating community around a table.
Garden and Food Bank Support
Christ Church is committed to supporting our local food bank and we grow vegetables in the summer to provide fresh produce to our neighbours.
